Findings from the Housing LIN survey of home-based work in Housing OrganisationsTo better understand the effect of Covid-19 on the housing sector, in partnership with The Workhome Project, the Housing LIN launched a survey in the autumn of 2020 to identify and capture the impact and examples of home-based working during the first stages of the pandemic for their staff and residents, including older adults and disabled people.

Housing for people with dementia – are we ready?We were delighted to be appointed Secretariat to the latest Inquiry by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People. Written by the Housing LIN, the report pulls together the evidence presented to the Inquiry's expert Panel, the research and analysis undertaken to understand the housing implications of people living with dementia and makes over 40 key policy and practice recommendations for making dementia-readiness happen.

What collaborative housing offers in a pandemic: Evidence from 18 communities in England and WalesThis Housing LIN Viewpoint, co-written by authors from the LSE and the Universities of Bristol, Lancaster and Northumbria, looks at the impact of Covid-19 and captures the responses and experiences of how 18 Community-led housing (CLH) projects in England and Wales have coped during the pandemic.

Retirement Village and Extra Care Housing in England: Operators’ Experience during the COVID-19 Pandemic - Funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust, undertaken by St Monica Trust and the Housing LIN, the RE-COV study addresses these gaps with the view to sharing evidence to inform future operational decisions and practices, influence national policy developments, and raise awareness of the retirement village and extra care housing COVID-19 experience in England.

Retirement Housing: Marketing retirement housing as aspirational and not a sign of crisisA cross-industry steering group, brought together by Shakespeare Martineau solicitors, including the Housing LIN, published a research report that highlights a significant disparity between public perception and actual offering at retirement housing schemes, as well as identifying clear issues with language and missed opportunities by the retirement housing sector’s marketing approach.

Better Lives, Better Endings: A collaboration between extra care housing and a hospice - We published a new Housing LIN case study (No 162) featuring a project undertaken in partnership between London-based housing association, Octavia and St Christopher’s. The aim was to encourage an inclusive and proactive approach to planning the end-of-life care for everyone involved.

The TECH Pandemic Report - How has COVID-19 changed the perception of technology in specialist housing?In collaborated with Appello, the research published in this report looks at the long-term impact of COVID-19 on usage of technology in specialist housing. The aim was to showcase how beneficial technology was in the response by housing providers to the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Melfield Gardens, Lewisham – an intergenerational housing scheme for older people and students, designed to a Passivhaus standardThis Housing LIN case study (no 163) by Levitt Bernstein explores Melfield Gardens in Lewisham. Winner of a 2021 Housing Design Awards, these 100% affordable homes for Phoenix Community Housing combine intergenerational living with HAPPI principles whilst targeting a highly sustainable Passivhaus standard.

The TAPPI Inquiry Report: Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation – Phase One - Chaired by Professor Roy Sandbach OBE and funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust, the Housing LIN consultancy team was Secretariat to the TAPPI Inquiry Panel. Our resultant report gained widespread support for developing an overarching TAPPI Framework. The Panel’s ‘Big Insights’ are underpinned by ten core principles to build technology into housing in a way that improves life for our ageing population.

Assessment of the evidence of financial benefits provided by almshouses - Thie Housing LIN consultancy team was commissioned by The Almshouse Association to assess the evidence of financial benefits provided by the current revival of almshouses. Our report produced figures that reveal startling cost of saving to the economy and sets out the evidence of the financial benefits provided by almshouses using evidence from existing data and from primary research with almshouses.
